According to its distributor Phone Star Communication Sdn Bhd’s executive director Andy Tan, the handset integrates a digital 1.3- megapixel charge coupled device (CCD) with flash and 8X progressive zoom.

“Sagem is the second mobile phone vendor to incorporate a CCD sensor inside a camera phone. With the CCD image sensor in place, users are assured of capturing good quality pictures.”

The Bluetooth- and infra-red-enabled myX-8 can record and play video and audio files such as MP3 files, supports Mini Secure Digital (SD) memory card, and comes embedded with 40 megabytes of memory and a 1MB photo phone book. It is claimed to offer 350 hours of standby time and five hours of talk time.

The myX-8, designed by French designer Ora-Ito whose works include those for Louis Vuitton and Swatch, is targeted at those who want functions without compromising on design and appreciate rich picture and sound quality in their camera phone.

Housed in a white and aluminium casing, the myX-8 retails at RM1,999. The package includes a 128MB Mini SD card, transceiver, battery, charger and stereo headset.

At the product launch, the company also unveiled its first dye-sublimation photo printer, the Photo Easy-150, and another camera phone, the myT-55.

The Photo Easy-150 accepts photos via infra-red, MultiMedia Card, SD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Smart Digital and CompactFlash cards. This means photo printing can be done anytime, anywhere, without the need for a computer. The printer is priced at RM999.

As for the myT-55, it supports VGA with 4X zoom capability, general packet radio service (Class 10) and picture messaging. It comes built-in with Java 2.0 with two games and Hi-Fi ringtones. It retails at RM799.

On another development, Sagem is in the midst of merging with Snecma. With the merger, both companies can capitalise on each other’s technological and commercial strengths. “The merger will also increase both parties’ value of electronics in the aerospace industry. The new group will be a technological leader in aerospace propulsion, aerospace equipment, communications and defence security,” Tan said.
